A healthy weight

A healthy weight is very subjective although defined in medical terms by your height, age, gender, muscle mass, bone structure, and risk for various diseases.   The criteria used most often to measure health are BMI, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and body fat percentage.   Not only is BMI outdated, it is not the way to focus on what being healthy means

Overriding principle

The idea of a "healthy weight" is not just about aesthetics. Instead, focus on reducing your risk of disease and overall well-being.

Everyone's body is different, we like to focus on nourishment, hydration, movement, breathing and managing stress rather than the numbers on a scale.

Changing views over time

The ideal body image, especially for women, has always been dictated by the media and fashion, from Marilyn Monroe in the 1050s to Twiggy in the 70s. However, what's considered "fashionable" isn't always synonymous with health.

Filters have replaced Photoshop, but most of what we deem beauty online is fake. Let's focus on health and diversity instead.

Where does that leave us?

Across the world, our food is being harmed through farming methods that damage the soil, such as growing crops in hydroponic systems. The food industry puts profit before health. We are also experiencing a time shortage as we manically manage our weeks, leaving less time for fun and exercise.

This is your time.  We only live once.  Let's live longer rather than take longer to die.  The research is here, The products are here.  The time to action is now.

How do we manage our weight when time is tight?

Small changes at home are vital to making health improvements. Understand how to weave these into busy schedules and adjust as you learn what works for you.

Even small, regular efforts can lead to substantial long-term benefits. It's a journey, but as with all journeys, it starts with a small step forward.
